Adultery, bunions, evolution, and Jane Austen—these are just a few of the topics that Christopher Rush’s Scottish great-great-aunt Elspeth Marr expounded upon in a series of lifelong musings that were shockingly frank and progressive for her time. Sassy, opinionated, and delightfully down-to-earth, Aunt Epp wrote letters and notes to an unnamed “young girl” about the nuts and bolts of life, as well as her views on more worldly matters, offering advice on topics ranging from Angels to Wrinkles, from a good basic Coq au Vin to Kissing After Garlic, with a few homespun herbal remedies thrown in. This intriguing Victorian gem was previously published as Aunt Epp’s Guide for Life.

A bit more on the Druids.

As we mentioned before they not only presided over religious functions but they were also advisers, judges, teachers and ambassadors between rulers.

draoi-id  equals “Oak Knowledge”

and as we mentioned before there were both male and female Druids

it is said their training which included philosophy, natural science   and teaching.—-they also needed to understand  politics and military methods  For remember that in the long term they proved to be more powerful than the rulers that sought their advise and most of all support

How to Kill a Werewolf
Those who are changed into the demon were wolf
suddenly fall to the ground as if seized with epilepsy and there they lie without life or motion.  Their actual bodies do not move from the spot where they have fallen, nor do their limbs turn to the hairy limbs of a wolf but the soul or spirit by some fascination quits the inert body and enters the spectrum or paous of a wolf, and when they have glutted their foul lupine lusts and cravings by the Devil’s power, the should re-enters the former human body.

One of the great delights of the Lake District

is that whatever the season it has its special attractions, spring with its fresh greenery, it’s snow capped peaks, and of course Wordsworth’s daffodils, summer with its rambling, sailing and  lazy days by the lake,

autumn with its richly coloured foliage, its romantic misty scenerry:

and winter,,  when the the mountains and lakes are seen in their most dramatic garb.    The area is undoubtedly popular as a holiday venue.,

but although some of the towns and villages may well be crowded at times, there is space for all who are prepared to take to the many bye roads and footpaths.  The lakes and mountains each have their own particular charm, and one of the great assets of the Lake District is that all this magnificent scenery is packed into a relatively small area.

It is estimated that there has been a castle here since at least the 11th century–buy it’s big claim to fame is that
Sudeley Castle remains the only private castle in England to have a queen buried within the grounds – Queen Katherine Parr, the last and surviving wife of King Henry VIII – who lived and died in the castle.
Katherine was,  The multi-married King Henry VIII’s 6th and final wife—-at or near 31 she married  56 year old Henry VIII—a horribly overweight man who had unhealed sores on his legs which reportedly stank badly.  He had divorced 1 wife,  annulled another, manipulated the murder of two more—lost one in childbirth prior to his marriage to this apparently kind and strongly protestant lady who had her self buried two husbands who like Henry were much her seniors.  Though her marriage was not smooth given Henry’s temper and self indulgence she did like her two previous husbands managed to out live him.
Unfortunately she married one more time—to another self-centered member of court and Thomas Seymour uncle to her step son Edward VI  which legend has it that she had been in love with Thomas long before she caught Henry’s eye.  Rumors swarmed about the couple and his attention to Elizabeth (who would later set the throne as Elizabeth I)—and there is still much speculation as to how far he took his power hungry passions—but Katherine’s pregnancy took her life about 4 or five years after Henry died.

Blessing of the Fleet At the Florida Seafood Festival

“Annual Seafood Festivals give you a good chance to try different specialties and enjoy entertainment and a variety of other activities as well.  A particularly pleasant one, in the very heart of oyster country, is the November Florida Seafood Festival in  Apalachicola.  You couldn’t find a better setting for seafood consumption than this charming riverside town where you can watch the fishing boats unload their catch.  Oysters shucking and eating contests are two of the more popular highlights.

Going to Key West—May I Suggest Sunset

as you will see below that thre are several places to watch the sunset—a favorite thing to do on the island at the end of the Highway

But may i suggest that your first enjoyment of the end of the day at the traditional sunset at Mallory Pier.  Here various performers—I have seen tightwork walkers, a cat trainer whose cats went on to bigger and better thing…there was the Southern most Piper who dressed in kilt and all waked up and down the pier entertaining the Southern most Crowd with northern most instrument.

These performers work thru an organization that works with the city of Key West an agreement that allows the performances to use the pier two hours before and after sunset every day..  In addition to the performers there are all manner of crafts and art works for sale along the land side of the pier while the performers are on the ocean side.   Oh by the way the city does get 12 evenings in the year where they claim the pier and can allow cruise ships to stay (they are usually required to be gone well before the performances start)  later or to arrange for some other performances—for example a concert by a Navy band.

I like to get there in enough time to set right on the edge of the pier, dangling my feet over the side and twisting about to watch the performers but holding a front row seat for the beauty of nature—-truly a lovely way to end the day and get ready to do the Duval Street Crawl

Salcombe North Sands

Salcombe

South Devon

“It is hard to avoid falling in love with Salcombe.

The quaint coastal town’s winding, shop-filled streets slip quietly down to the shore, depositing guests in front of its harbour and the sparkling waters of the sprawling Kingsbridge Estuary.

Salcombe is beloved by sailing enthusiasts, but it is also popular with artists,  with many galleries and studios centered around the ‘arts quarter’ on Island Street.

The town is very much a holiday haven:  it population of 2,000 swells ten times over in summer.  Luckily, there is enough beach to go around, with North Sands, South Sands, East Portlemouth and Mill Bay all within easy reach.  Just beyond them all, don’t miss Overbeck’s, a hidden paradise of 20th century subtropical gardens where you’ll find plant life from all over the world.”

All my three photos today are from Glendalough

Glendalough is a glacial valley in County Wicklow, Ireland, renowned for an Early Medieval monastic settlement founded in the 6th century by St Kevin. From 1825 to 1957, the head of the Glendalough Valley was the site of a galena lead min

I have been to this beautiful valley twice—once with a tour that I went on by myself and another time  on our self driving exploration with my best friend and her sons—I am not sure which these pictures are from since I found the valley little changed from one visit to another—I recommend visiting it if you ever get the chance as it is a quiet place to soothe a soul much battered  by the the heavy pace and responsibilities of the present age.    It is also a beautiful  place with its meadows and lakes.   I am also intrigued by the history of the settlement devoted to St. Kevin that grew up here with about a thousand lay person and who know how many monks and other church personage….and the ruins that give reality to the tales.
