We have babbled about Spring, and Easter and of course April—which Easter didn’t occur in this year…Easter confounds me as it is so flexiable something stuck in the past more in tune with a pagan celebration than a modern rejoicing.
So who set it up that way?   Evidentally it was a council of Christian bishops under the Roman Emperor Constantine I in AD 325, who decided (along with a lot of other topics of procedure and doctrine) that Easter Day should fall on the first full moon after the Spring Equinox, and that it should always fall on a Sunday to represent the day of Christ’s Resurrection.  So it was never meant as an exact, just a moveable reminder I guess.  But not everybody saw it that way.
Seems Britain was Christianized by Irish Monks who believed in an entirely different doctrine and it wasn’t until 664 AD at The Synod of Whitby   when it was agreed that the Celtic Church would practice the same dates as the Roman one.
Oh by the way we’re schedule for a tour–that includes Whitby on 5/19.  I will do a full report on my Blog the next day to tell you all about the town, which was also the home of Captain Cook and the Birthplace of the “Modern” Dracula–I won’t promise any close up pictures of the abbey (Whitby Abbey) as it’s either 199 steps up the cliff side to get to it…HELP—but there are landings to rest—with enough room to set a coffin (as these stairs were used by the pallbearers to carry the dearly departed up for funeral and burial).
The Louisiana Purchase and the Alaska Purchase were both made in April.

In the US, it  is the Awareness Month for  Mathematics,                           Stress,  Testicular Cancer, Occupatonal Therapy, Autism, Alcholism,  and STD,

For space nuts, the first man in space, the first Shuttle mission, the Apollo 13 and 16 missions, and the launches of the first navigation satellite, the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory, the Dong Fang Hong 1, the Hubble Space Telescope and Salyut 1, were all in April.

April has been busy through the years…in ancient Rome they use to sacrifice  (4/15: Fordicidia) pregnant cows and dogs (4/25: Robigalia) I don’t believe they had to be pregnant however.   They had ( 4/12–19: Cerialia)  festivals (4/21 was just festival/ Parilia) and games.   Oh and don’t forget lots of wine (4/23 Vinalia),
• For car nuts: Benz, Chrysler, Ford, Hertz, Jellinek-Mercedes, Kimber (MG), Lamborghini, Michelin, and Royce were all born or died in April. And the Ford Mustang was born; the Oldsmobile died.

April is a great month to:
Take a Caribbean Cruise as it is before the wettest month of May and the Hurricane season
And don’t forget to “Love Paris in the spring time” with April’s flower and sunny weather a nice accompaniment to seeing the city of lovers.
Or a sojourn to New York  with the flower blooming in Central Park and Broadway with new shows and there’s the Tribeca Film Festival as well.
And to afford this (or these) trip—invest in the Dow.  April is the best month to be in blue chips, if history is a guide.Since 1950, April has been the best month for the Dow, which has scored an average gain of 1.5 percent.  http://www.cnbc.com/2014/04/01/

While January and February are bestMarch, April and May are still excellent times to apply for new positions and line up as many interviews as possible. As you approach the summer months, companies are eager to complete the hiring process too, so that could work in your favor.

Boxing legends and friends Joe Louis and Sugar Ray Robinson died on the same day in April, eight years apart. Aviation pioneers Anthony Fokker and Donald Douglas were born on the same day in April, two years’ apart.

Tax Day is typically April 15.
