The major motion picture Lethal Weapon 3 featured the demolition of Orlando’s old City Hall in its opening scene.
The Orlando area was originally the main hub of Florida’s citrus industry. After a disastrous freeze right before the 1900s, farmers began moving their citrus crops south.
The Orlando Citrus Bowl, currently under renovation, was originally constructed in 1936 with a capacity of 10,000.
Lake Baldwin and Baldwin Park take their names from Robert H. B. Baldwin, former secretary of the Navy. A Veterans Park on the northern shore of Lake Baldwin honors those who have served.
The actual name of the fountain at Lake Eola is “Linton E. Allen Memorial Fountain.” The fountain is the “official” symbol of the City of Orlando.

This beautiful park contains a historic home, while it’s not on the National Register was built in 1888–Or at least the first part of it was built then by John Thomas Mizell, contractor and son of David W. Mizell who was an Orange Co sheriff who died in an ambush in 1870. (For the whole store of the Mizell family and the ambush check out: http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/1992-12-27/news/9212240758_1_mizell-david-w-orange-county ). Built on the site of the Mizell’s log cabin, (if you look carefully you can find the family’s cemetery on the grounds) The house has been added to and changed over the years. Harry P. Leu whose name now graces the site along with his wife bought the house in 1936 and it was they who added the trees and flowers and made the grounds what they are today (Miss Mary Jane Schmidli married Harry P. Leu in 1932. Five years later, while being married to one of the most sucessful Orlando businessmen, Mrs. Harry P. Leu was a member in the local Sorosis Club. Throughout their marriage, the two remained active within the Orlando community .) They donated the 10-room house and the 103 acre estate on Lake Rowena to the city of Orlando in 1961. The house can be seen by tour only and is especially in during the Christmas Holidays with its lovely decorations.
I highly recommend several hours to see the plants, birds and so many lovely flowers and decorative setting—-this is a place to be enjoyed at a slow and easy pace……every time I go it takes me longer to make the tour—as I learn to savor more and more
At least 1,000 buildings within Orlando’s city limits have historic value to the community. Another 4,000 structures throughout unincorporated Orange County are more than 50 years old.

and so ladies and gents at Colonial 17-92 turns west and that is where we leave it….but I’ll be back—much sooner than last time I HOPE….Oh and when people ask me what my blog is about I have said everything or nothing specifically– but I think I’m gonna change that—rather I will say that my Blog is about living—-not staying at home and bemoaning your age or health or what ever but rather to do things, go places—you don’t have to go around the round to see and do fun things….you don’t have to date Brad Pitt or Chris Helmsworth Julia Roberts or who’s a hottie dame lately? or have a fun date (I admit it would certainly help—but). So if you want some things to do or some strange stuff to entice your mind stay with me and I’ll do my best to help….but you gotta actually do something beside turning on the computer! ok? OK!
