no other state is more closely associated with the fruit.  Early American  settlers planted small groves, but citrus did not rally prosper until the first railroad reached Central Florida in 1880.  Freezes, drought, and insects plagued citrus thru the years, but the industry remained strong until three freezes in the 1980s–combined with increased urbanization—persuaded many growers that it was more profitable to sell their land for development thank risk replanting again.

Orange County:  The unreal First.  At last count, there were 65 legitimate theme parks and tourist attractions in the Greater Orlando at least (they are multiplying like bored rabbits) and probably a many as 450 if you throw n the one-dimensional kinds, such as goofy golf, water parks, super slides and those dinner theaters where you eat with your“ hands and call the waitress “wench”.

An Adventure Guide to Orlando and Central Florida

Orlando Science Center
777 E. Princeton Street
Orlando, Florida 3280
This center in Orlando has been delighting and educating the populace and even a few visitors that wander from the theme parks providing something so refreshing—education that is entertaining.  I includes four floors that include exhibits, a giant screen for `movies and areas for live programs—something for everyone.

Going on now  till September is The Hall of Heroes a multi-themed environment that will entertain and educate while presenting a marvelous atmosphere and items  including a replica (half that is ) of the 1960’s Batmobile and even a Batcave all put together to show you the science as well as the fiction of your favorite Super Hero.
There are also daily movies like “Secret Ocean” and  “Amazon Adventure” as well as School Programs and much, much more.
When people think of Florida they think of Mickey Mouse and orange juice.  But Florida is also the biggest beef producing state east of the Mississippi River.  The sugar you dump into your coffee every morning probably comes from Florida as does the houseplant on your desk.  Most of Florida’s more than 16 million resident live with 15 miles of the coast and seldom venture into the interior of the state,  a place of numberless lakes, oak and pine forests, gin-clear springs and fragment orange groves stretching from horizon to horizon.

The first permanent name bestowed by the white man on the continent of North America was Florida….(America wasn’t placed on a map until 1538)….Meanwhile on April 2, 1513, during the Easter season, Ponce de Leon of Spain bestowed on the green shores o North America the name of Florida, which has never been in jeopardy, though the area it designated has several time changed in size over the years.  If the Spanish had dominated in North America there seems every reason to suppose that the entire continent would have been called Florida, for all the land they saw to the north and west of the present peninsula was regarded as a part of the Florida territory by the Spanish.

Once upon a time, long before Walt Disney waved his magic pen and dew a new perament face on the map of Florida, Orlando was the hub city of the peninsula state for no reason other than its geographic  designation.  Once, hugged by citrus groves in all directions, of lakes, subtropical climate and unhurried lifestyle, and called itself City Beautiful.
