The Invention of Everything Else (by Samatha Hunt) is an absorbing story about love and death and a wonderfully imagined homage to one of history’s most visionary scientists.  New York City thrums with energy, wonder, and possibility in this magical novel about the life of Nikola Tesla.  http://www.amazon.com/Invention-Everything-Else-Samantha-Hunt/dp/054708577X

Ok in case you don’t know Nikola Tesla is (or rather was Born: July 10, 1856, Smiljan, Croatia  Died: January 7, 1943, Manhattan, NYa Serbian American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, physicist, and futurist best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current electricity supply system. OK NOW THAT’S DEFINATELY IN MY EVERYTHING ELSE CATEGORY—AND WE’RE ALL A BIT MORE EDUCATED OR CONFUSED WHAT EVER THE CASE MAY BE.

You scan through the score,
And put fingers on keys,
And you play.
And everything else goes away.
Everything else goes away.

from NEXT TO NORMAL

Next to Normal (styled as next to normal) is a rock musical with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt. Its story concerns a mother who struggles with worsening bipolar disorder and the effect that her illness and the attempts to alleviate it have on her family. The musical also addresses such issues as grieving a loss, suicide, drug abuse, ethics in modern psychiatry, and the underbelly of suburban life.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Next_to_Normal

Bio-polar in my days of nurses training—they’d just discovered bandages by then—was called manic depression and it’s not fun.  Persons with this condition can fluctuate from being so up that their behavior is bizarre and then can rapidly drop to depression so low that they are barely functional and there is no pattern to the mood changes.   On top of all this the medication that helps the condition often cause mood side effects that result in some sufferers discontinuing it .  It’s not a fun place to be.

The old believe everything, the middle-aged suspect everything, the young know everything.

‘F**K IVY AND EVERYTHING ELSE’    Mark McNairy  The title’s tongue-in-cheek reference to Teruyoshi Hayashida’s seminal photo-book Take Ivy,

Teruyoshi Hayashida was born in the fashionable Aoyama District of Tokyo, where he also grew up. He began shooting cover images for Men’s Club magazine after the title’s launch. Very sophisticated in style and a connoisseur of gourmet food, he is known for his homemade, soy-sauce-marinated Japanese pepper (sansho), and his love of gunnel tempura and Riesling wine. Weikipedia

Take Ivy was originally published in the 60’s and the web is full of praise for it’s fashion and presentation of same for men….http://thetrad.blogspot.com/2008/12/take-ivy-chapter-i.html  click on that sight if you’re into male fashion and well done pictures and whatever else you might like along that line.  I personally will see if there’s anything else along the everything else wanderings.

An Alias Smith and Jones (1971–1973) episode:  Everything Else You Can Steal      Blackjack Jenny, an honest middle-aged card dealer, meets our boys in New Mexico and asks them to keep a lookout for her son, who wrote her from the town saying he had a big score of some kind.     http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0508536/plotsummary?ref_=tt_ov_pl

Alias Smith and Jones are really Hannibal Heyes (Pete Duel) and Kid Curry (Ben Murphy) a couple of old west wanted men who are given a reprieve and now have to stay out of trouble.  Never could get into the show myself—kinda a yawn I thought.

Lord High Everything Else

Someone who does a multitude of jobs.
Ko-Ko, a character in Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera The Mikado, held the position of Lord High Executioner. The only other town official was Pooh-Bah, who went by the title Lord High Everything Else. Accordingly, if you’re saddled with many jobs at your place of business, with or without accompanying titles, you may call yourself or be called “Lord High Everything Else.” But no matter what you are called, your boss is still the grand Pooh-Bah.    http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/Lord+High+Everything+Else
Setting the opera in Japan, an exotic locale far away from Britain, allowed Gilbert to satirise British politics and institutions more freely by disguising them as Japanese.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mikado
I think that’s my problem my whole life—while I do everything there’s always a grand Pooh-Bah that gets all the attention, praise and worst of all money—oh but wait I do get all of something–all the dirty work, all the grind, and dirt and aggravation and I’m sure you know the rest.
There’s a dark side to everything.
