IT’S A MAN’S WORLD WEEK–BUT DON’T ASK THEM TO TALK ABOUT IT

In an article in the June Natural Awakenings Dwight Franklin stated:

“I was taught at a young age what being a man was suppose to look like…Men simply did not feel that they could experience the full range of emotions in their life experience.”

“Most men have a hard time communicating anything that remotely resembles an emotion. Why? Because emotions are scary to men, who think much more than they feel, and much of the time, many men don’t even know what or how they are feeling.” http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/emotional-fitness/201008/men-women-emotions-and-communication

And ladies this isn’t our delusion: “University of Montreal study found: Women are better than men at distinguishing between emotions, especially fear…demonstrated that women are better than men at processing auditory, visual and audiovisual emotions.”

But other studies show: “that, contrary to popular belief, when a relationship is in trouble it is men who suffer the most. Romantic ups and downs apparently have a greater effect on the mental health of young men than women.” hgtp://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1285184/Relationship-break-ups-hit-men-harder-women-researchers-claim.html#ixzz36ssuGJrw

“there is substantial evidence to show that men have more difficulty in expressing their emotions and exert greater controls over the expression of emotions.
men spend more time ruminating over negative emotions.
men share their emotions with far fewer.
men express emotions with less intensity.
men use less emotional language and fewer ’emotion’ words.
behavior seems less affected by expressions of emotion.
men are more likely to under-report negative feelings.
men are more willing to express emotions likely to be viewed as demonstrating power or control. For example, pride, anger and jealousy.

An example of what long term suppression can do is suppressing fear can damage the immune and endocrine system resulting in development of several serious illnesses.
