The Private Lives of the Tudors: Uncovering the Secrets of Britain’s Greatest Dynasty Hardcover – December 13, 2016

England’s Tudor monarchs—Henry VII, Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I—are perhaps the most celebrated and fascinating of all royal families in history. Their love affairs, their political triumphs, and their overturning of the religious order are the subject of countless works of popular scholarship. But for all we know about Henry’s quest for male heirs, or Elizabeth’s purported virginity, the private lives of the Tudors remain largely beyond our grasp.

Drowning
throughouit the ages, drowning was more often deployed to torture witches than to rid a nation of an unloved monarch.  However as a suicide method, drowning wields a romantic spell, all the way from heartbroken Artemisia’s final plunge to Virginia Woolf’s stroll with rock filled pockets into the River Ouse.  This attraction can be partly traced to a belief that drowning as a painless way to die, once the struggle for life ceased, the victim was thought to xit the world surrounded by serene visions and heavenly choirs.
No doubt this belief has roots in physical reality:  When a person drowns to death her brain becomes deprived of oxygen.  And brains deprived of oxyben typially hallucinate, whether there’s rlition involved or not.

Brevard County Courthouse

Current building built in 1912 replacing the wooden building.  Style influenced by Thomas Jefferson who was into Greek and Roman precedents.  The building is neoclassical Greek with poued concrete which cost $31,477.00
It ws renovated in 1925 and three wings were added at a cost of $80,000.  A second building was added afte the staggering growth that accompanied the area being chose for the space program.  It is connected to the original courthouse using a covered walkway.
Chapel at Newstead Abbey - Lord Byron's Nottinghamshire home from 1808 to 1814.

The Black Friar
(check out Tuesday’s account of Bryon’s Dog’s grave here at Newstad Abbey)
Today, a winding stone stairway leads the visitors to a sinister and stark little room, knon as the Prior’s Oratory, located next door to Byron’s Befoom.  Its scarred walls and wooden rafters exude an atmosphere that is nothing short of malicious, and the portrait of a riar that hangs upon the wall projects a menacing, almost threatning, aura.  It is known to be haunted of the Abbey’s Black Friar whose appearance was a harbinger that tragdy was about to befall the family Byron swore that the Black Friar had apppeared to him on the night before his wedding.  He later described his marriage as the unhappiest event of his career, but this may have been nothing more than poetic bitchery.  The Prior’s Oratory undoubtedly is one of the most chilling parts of the house, and several guides have been taken suddenly ill upon entering its ominous interior.

TINTAGEL CASTLE: HISTORY AND LEGEND

Built half on the mainland and half on a jagged headland projecting into the Cornish sea, Tintagel Castle is one of the most spectacular historic sites in Britain. Its association with King Arthur makes it also one of the most famous.

But the history of this enigmatic place stretches back centuries before the first tales of the legendary king shrouded it in the mists of romance. Find out more about Tintagel’s history and legends below.

Originally Brown Mill after the local grstmill

https://tshasecurepay.com/land-rush/town/2054/Brown-s-Mill/

The US post office requested the name change because it thought “Brown Mill” would be confused with “Brownsville”.

A resident came up with the current name because it was apparently a custom to leave a dime in a box for people who carried the mail from Giddings.

The town was moved from the old mill site to be near Hwy 21, only to move again to be near the railroad when it was built.   (there’s also an Old Dime Box where some stayed by the highway).

The town has a museum

A scene depicting ritualistic Aztec cannibalism being practiced in the Codex Magliabechiano, folio 73r.
The remains of the Aztec sacrifical victims fail to survive archaeologially to any great extent, not despite the mass scale of the killing, but because of it.
A few little spalls of bone and a handful of worked pieces are all that remains of hundreds of thousands of sacrificial victims, who were cannibalized, rendered into animal feed and displayed as trophy skulls to be shattered by the wind and rain.  The more organized and energetic a process is, the more organized and energetic its patterns of disposal and reuse.

In May 1940, the fate of World War II hangs on Winston Churchill, who must decide whether to negotiate with Adolf Hitler, or fight on knowing that it could mean the end of the British Empire.

This is a great movie of overcoming in an impossible senerio and showed me why my dad—a veteran of WWII and the envasion and liberation of Europe (he was with Patton’s 3rd)—had so much respect for the British People and Churchill.

If you haven’t seen it—try it—or if you have see it again, it might just give you the lift in mood we could all use— like then–almost the entire world is fighting a common enemy—Hang in there we can do this.

Zinc is a metal that often gets overlooked when it comes to healthy diets, but it is just as important as other minerals. Zinc helps in some very important functions such as supporting the immune system against viruses and bacteria. It also helps with our senses of smell and taste and helps with the healing of wounds.   For foods high in zinc go here:  https://10faq.com/health/zinc/?gclid=Cj0KCQjw2PP1BRCiARIsAEqv-pR-Je8Z3dco3xwcjd1WAsxvAOIxobKFxGu2DZYzAP6Vb-6JVhpE6nEaAnCYEALw_wcB

So while we’re already in England—lets check out a palace of much report—Hampton Court was built for Cardinal Wolsey—a butcher’s son who went from nothing to the church and managed to eventually be the most powerful  church official in the country answering only to the King of England—unfortunately for him that king was Henry—of 8th fame and when you  failed to produce for Henry you lost a lot and while Wolsey did not die by the king’s hand—he lost all he had and his possessions and was on his way to answer for his shortcomings before the King’s court when he became ill and resided in a city were another famous victim of the Tudors rested.

He finally did realiize his error—or maybe it was just regret when he realized his fate because of the path he chose when he uttered:

“If I had served my God as diligently as I have done the King, He would not have given me over in my grey hairs.”

Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, who died at Leicester Abbey on 29 November 1530. interestingly enough Richard III (killed by Henry VIII’s father) died near Leicester in a battle that gave the Tudors the crown, was and his body was lost due to the destructions of the monestaries by Henry VIII:  check this site for some interesting items on Wolsey’s loss.  One death gave the Tudor’s the dynasty and the other one of their most (in my mind) impressive castle.]

The Death of Cardinal Wolsey

Searches have been done off and on since 1922 to find the man’s remains but to date all they’ve come up with is a King whose reputation has improve since the discovery.

Richard III, who was killed at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485,  He was originally interred at the church of the Greyfriars, a 13th-Century monastic friary at Liecester (or what may have been the outskirts of the town at that time.

Stress:  is a chronic condition that many of us know too well.  This constant overdose of fight and flight leads to nothing but sleepless nights and ill health.  Rest and relaxation are the best cures for stress and stress related problems, but ironically stress can actually prevent restorative sleep.  ANd with loads of stress it’s hard for our bodies to decompress within the hours of sleep alone.  So try to set aside some time during your waking hours to just sort of veg out.  The key will be to try and quiet your mind and body until they both feel rejuvenated enought to handle another round of whatever it is that you feel is important enought to put them through.
