THE LONDON FIVER – FIVE OF THE BEST DONUT SHOPS IN LONDON

I started this blog to attempt to get you out of the house—that was 6 years ago and little did I know that I would some day be encouraging you to stay in.

So did I stop the blog—HELL NO—I now try to find interesting diversion—either that or suggesting ideas to work on so you’ll be  READY to go out and DO SOMETHING when the walls come down.

So what are you waiting for—get going and see if I have anything you might be interested in now or later—-cause lives are not forever and you don’t want to be one of those people who say—if I’d only have…..

This use to be one of my most visited places in Key West—a former bordello—with a burial ground for roosters who uses to be a fighting attraction here—also an attraction were boxing matches–some of which featured a writer that was rapidly become a point of interest beyond the island shores—someone by the name of Ernest Hem something or other—.but alas by the time I got there all that was history–though the rooster cemetery was still in sight—and the food was good……it seems to have moved on to more high class which s fun for some  I may be wrong about that but the food prep has gone smaller and much more like a painting than a lunch item —and when you’re use to what was before you don’t always welcome the new–go ahead tell me I’m just old and dated—-whatever here are some comments on it from a book from the day:

“Blue Heaven”

 729 Thomas Ave.

The Blue Heaven is a terrific place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, but the word is out and tourists have made this restaurant a must-see-stop on their Key West itineraries.  The lines have become legendary..  Come early, Sundays are impossible.  Summertime is a good time, if you can bear the heat.  No reservations.  No off-street parking.  Lot of shade from huge ancient trees.  Chickens, dogs and cats are commonplace, but usually well behaved.  The food is wonderful.

Having problems sleeping—lots of people do and I’m told even more during this period of enforced inactivity—I read an interesting idea the other day that might be helpful–can’t hurt.
Get a note book of some kind—-you ca get them from less than a dollar and on up–doesn’t matter—but anyway when you’re ready for bed —have the notebook at the bedside and just write down randomly all the things big and small that are bothering you—then close it and put it (and your problems) down and away from you—turn out the lights and see if that doesn’t help you to get a deeper and more refreshing sleep.

And if you ever wonder about terrors that comes in the dead of night???!!!

“We–or our primitive forefathers—once believed that the return of the dead, unseen forces, and secret injurious powers were realities, and were convinced that they actually happened.  Nowadays we no longer believe in them, we have surmounted those modes of thought; but we do not feel quite sure of our new beliefs, and the old ones still exist within us ready to seize upon any confirmation.”

Little Jack Horner rhyme sheet (SB10869) - SparkleBox
Sounds so simple and we’ve (well back in my day not so sure now) have heard this nursery rhyme—but check this out:
“Always keen to raise fresh funds, Henry (as in the eight–Tudor King of England and famous for his many wives among other things)  had shown an interest in Glastonbury
(and other abbeys)  Hoping to appease the royal appetite the nervous Abbot, Richard Whitting, allegedly sent Thomas Horner to the King with a special gift.  This was a pie containing the title deeds to twelve manor houses in hope that these would deflect the King from acquiring Gastonbury Abbey.  On his way to London, the not so loyal courier Horner apparently stuck his thumb into the pie ad extracted the deeds for Mell Manor, a plumb piece of real estate.  The attempted bribe failed and the dissolution of the monasteries (including Glastonbury) went ahead from 1536 – 1540.  Richard Whitting was subsequently executed, but the Horner family kept the house, so the moral of this one is:  treachery and greed pay off, but bribery is a bad idea.”

If you go back to my June 2016 trip to the UK you’ll see that I spent a month in a little town in Cornwall:  Tintagel —a town with  many interesting thing to see and a legendary reputation of being the birth place of King Arthur.
I made some friends there—but I only kept in touch with two—one was, the last time I heard, in Australia and the other stayed in Tintagel and she and a friend opened this Pizza and sweets shop over a year ago:  Check it out:

It’s the weekend–or almost—so that that was a slogan you COULD LIVE BY

The Best Place to Camp in Every State

getting out into the great outdoors is a great way to escape lock down and have fun some place where you have the space to distance and still enjoy yourself.

There’s lots of place you’ve been to that you don’y know at all:
For instance situated in the heart of Central Florida is a town that is now part of the urban sprawl of bedroom communities of the House of Mouse and the other (from other theme parks to all manner of other places)  that grew from there).
Yes
has a Florida made up name—a half Spanish name which according to my reading means “High Hill Spring”.
Development started over 100 years ago when a group of Boston Business men  (Altamonte Land, Hotel and Navigation Company) bought 1,200 acres of the high, lake-dotted land in 1882.  They set up operations about 3 miles NW of the present city which by the way was originally called Snow’s Station. with the name changing to call attention to a small spring here which was said to have had therapeutic value-
The spring was discovered in 1887 in Lake Adelaide and after that there was a petition which went to the Post office and thus Altamonte Spring was born.  That along with the establishment of the Altamonte
Hotel in the early 1900s  (until  1953 when it was destroyed by fire)
Today we know Altamonte for it’s shops and office complexes as well as what I mentioned before a residential bedroom community.  It has a hospital Advent Health, and while its once Large Shopping center is much diminished–Crane Roost Park which is just across  a side street that borders the mall on the west–is a great place to spend some time.
So where ever you live–take some time to explore—probably best on line at this time to do that on line—search for history, things to do, events and a cross roads may turn out to be a historical site of some importance.

“Jack London dropped out of Berkley to join the Alaskan Klondike gold rush in 1897, and of his brutal ezpweiwnxes there, and late at sea, he wrote vigorous tales of men and animals at odds with one another

“Upon his return to San Francisco the following year, ……he published his first collection of stories, THE SON OF THE WOLF, but it was his next adventure story,  THE CALL OF THE WILD in 1903, that turned him int the most successful and best known writer in America in the early 1900’s.
