Red, White and Brilliant Fourth of July Cakes

Prince George’s birth on July 22,2013, at St. Mary’s in London may have echoed Prince William’s because he was born at the same hospital, but really it heralded the start of a brand-new era for the House of Windsor and showed how the monarchy has modernized.  The birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s third child on April 22, 2018, brought into effect Britain’s 2013 Succession to the Crown Act.  Under the ancient rules o male primogeniture, little Louis woud have taken precedence over his older sister Charlotte, but instead he became fifth in line to the throne on his birth while Charlotte remained fourth, and Prince Harry was bumpd into sixth place on the eve of his wedding to Meghan Markle.

First of all I’d like to apologize as I kept saying that this museum was done with pseudo- Aztec accents —but I stand corrected—they are Mayan…..SORRY.

Colonial Fort Found In Maryland.  The remains of a wooden fort erected by European settlers in 1634 have been found in Maryland, US.  The site, known as St Mary’s Fort was Maryland’s first colonial settlement and one of the earliest to be established in the US, after Jamestown, Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay.  Initially inhabited by around 150 settlers, the site was later abndoned in favor of Annapolis.  In consultation with local Piscataway tribal members, excavation of the fort and research into its occupants and their relationship with local native people–will continue.

Exploring Saqqara: A Visitor’s Guide

Twenty miles south of Cairo, on the Nile’s west bank, where river fed crop fields give way to the desert, the ancient site of Saqqara is marked by crumbling pyramids that emerge from the sand like dragon’s teeth.  Most striking is the famous Step Pyramid, built in the 27th century B.C. by Djoser, the Old Kingdom pharaoh who launched the tradition of constructing pyramids as monumental royal tombs.  More than a dozen other pyramids are scattered along the five-mile strip of land, which is also dotted with the remains of temples, tombs and walkways that, together, span the entire history of ancient Egypt.  But beneath the ground is far more–a vast and extraordinary netherworld of treasures.

From the 16th to the 19th centuries the village depended on herring fishing.  But in the 19th century it began to become a vacation destination.

This was interrupted in 1952 by a flood of the River Lyn-Burel.    31 were drowned and many of the house were destroyed that hosted the vacation visitors.

Along the Eslpanade are a row of Victorian houses, shops and cafes with imitation Gothic details.

Rhenish Tower - Lynmouth

There is also the Quay a replica of the Rhemish Tower built by General Rawdon in 1860 to b used for storing salt water for baths.  The original one was destroyed in the aforementioned flood.

two miles east of the village is Watermeet a beauty spot at the confluence of East Lynn and Farley Water at the mouth of East and West Lyn RIvers.

Watersmeet House (pictured below) is a former fishing lodge located near Lynmouth and used today as an information centre, tea room and shop by the National Trust, who have owned it since 1996.

San Francisco in popular culture

Have you ever been to San Francisco?

I have and I love the city—my stays there have been way too short and I have not been able to do a return with more time and a chance to see everything.

A beautiful city with an angle that allows you to see the beautiful bay from all over town—a bay with a bridge that most of the world can identify at first sight and in the middle of that beauty a small island with a very infamous prison –this town has it all.

But there’s sites beside Telegraph Hill to see (and don’t forget the Parrots) and something to do beside riding the cable cars--though I do recommend it.

For instance did you know that there is a head off of a  70′ statue in residence at City Hall-–seems it was broken off in the 1906 earthquake—-though nobody seems to know if the body was destroyed or what—-if you find a body of almost 70′ missing a head you could direct them where to find the rest—-but anyway…..

Golden Gate Park has a botanical garden that if you haven’t  been already, might give you a few hours of enjoyment and a bit of relaxing before seeing the must see items around town  Or you could try the Fire Museum in Pacific Heights for something interesting and probably less crowded

There so many things—-check it out below

Why 1971 was an extraordinary year in film

What do they talk about for that long?  Monica Whitty, and Australian social psychologist, has published papers outlining how romance scammers groom victims by showering them with compliments, sending love poems, professing their undying support and even mailing small gifts with love notes attached.  Some experts refer to this as love bombing.  The goal is to get the victim so infatuated with the scammer–or, more accurately, the character he or she portrays–that the victim will be more likely to say yes when asked for money.
