A KISS OF UNUSUAL PRESENCE

Good Monday to you. Was busy all weekend. Friday the usual girls’ thing. Sat a birthday party—you go Chris and Sunday got my hair done and had a nice lunch on a great street–by the way Mattie (my picture of the day) worked at the restaurant and agreed to let me feature her—isn’t she beautiful! Great flower.

In my daily inventory of the new jewelry I bought at the last sale I came across a small chain with a candy kiss shape–it’s not actually a signed Hershey but we all know the shape, which got me thinking why do they call that particular candy-shape a “kiss”. So off we go again.

I went to the source: “HERSHEY’S KISSES were first introduced in 1907. It’s not known exactly how they received their name, but a popular theory is that the candy was named for the sound or motion of the chocolate being deposited during manufacturing.”

“Kisses…inspired many…imitations. Originally, the Hershey logo was printed on a piece of tissue paper …underneath the silver foil. This aided knock-off producers because there was nothing visible…that differentiated the Hershey’s Kisses….To combat this, Hershey changed the wrapping…in 1921…inserted a “plume” or banner into the foil wrapping so Kisses…could be distinguished…later, the Kisses’ …were trademarked officially.” http://www.danschocolates.com/Chocolate-Learn/History/history-of-the-hershey-kiss.html

“…Milton S. Hershey, a Pennsylvania candy maker who’d failed twice in the confection businesses before hitting a winning formula… built a company town, Hershey, Pa., where he enjoyed the sweet smell of success.” http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/2007-02-14/entertainment/sfl-valentines-hershey-kisses_1_hershey-s-kisses-chocolate-all-american-icon

“Kisses is one of the most popular brands of candies…spawning sales that topped $400 million. More than 60 million Hershey’s Kisses…are produced each day…” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hershey’s_Kisses

So I have the charm on a small chain–both gold tone $10
