“If I’m honest I have to tell you I still read fairy-tales and I like them best of all.” ― Audrey Hepburn
Did you ever wonder about our fairy tales?  “A fairy tale (pronounced /ˈfeəriˌteɪl/) is a type of short story that typically features European folkloric fantasy characters, such as dwarves, elves, fairies, giants, gnomesgoblins, mermaids, trolls, or witches, and usually magic or enchantments. Fairy tales may be distinguished from other folk narratives such as legends (which generally involve belief in the veracity of the events described)and explicitly moral tales, including beast fables.”  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairy_tale
“They have been told as bedtime stories by generations of parents, but fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood may be even older than was previously thought…..Contrary to the view that the tale originated in France shortly before Charles Perrault produced the first written version in the 17th century, Dr Tehrani found that the varients shared a common ancestor dating back more than 2,600 years.”  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/6142964/Fairy-tales-have-ancient-origin.html
Antique Japanese Fairy Tales 1st Edition 7 Children’s Story Rare

Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm’s collection of folktales contains some of the best-known children’s characters in literary history, from Snow White and Rapunzel to Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood. Yet the brothers originally filled their book, which became known as “Grimm’s Fairy Tales,” with gruesome scenes that wouldn’t be out of place in an R-rated movie. The Grimms never even set out to entertain kids. The first edition of “Grimm’s Fairy Tales” was scholarly in tone, with many footnotes and no illustrations. Only later, as children became their main audience, did they take out some of the more adult content.  http://www.history.com/news/the-dark-side-of-the-grimm-fairy-tales

“There is the great lesson of ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ that a thing must be loved before it is lovable.” ― G.K. Chesterton

In the Brothers Grimm version, one of Cinderella’s evil stepsisters cuts off her toes, and the other her heel so they can both fit into the tiny glass slipper. The prince is notified by little doves that there is blood on the shoe, and finally discovers that the true owner is Cinderella. Once the stepsisters realize that they should try to win favor with Cinderella (after all, she will be queen), they attend her wedding, only to have their eyes pecked out by birds.  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/12/the-real-story-behind-eve_n_4239730.html
