The park is named for the late wife of James Durante who in the early 80s donated the land in honor of his wife.
The park is 32 acres with paths, boardwalks and many senic views of Sarasota Bay (theres more than a mile of these trails) and they transvere salt marsh, hammock and mangroves and are punctuated with gazebos where you can rest from your wanderings.  It joins Quick Point Nature Preserve  https://www.longboatkey.org/town-government/departments/parks-and-recreation/quick-point-nature-preserve 
Both parks are great for viewing the local wading birds.

During World War II about 378,000 German and Italian prisoners were sent to prisoner of war (POW) camps in the USA, with its military bases, warm climate, and agricuture and lumbering activity Florida was an ideal location for POW camps, and 10,000 German prisoners were eventually incarcerratred in the state.
