Though the founders of Cassadaga have passed on to the “spirit plane,” the quaint Victorian town remains the oldest continuously active Spiritualist center in the South

First of all I would like to apologize—-had computer problems and  between that and the Holiday I haven’t done my usual blogs—-Sorry—really sorry.

The history of Cassadaga

Cassadaga may be small but this town, that’s about an hour north of downtown Orlando and abut 25 miles from Daytona Beach,  is pretty famous—-many of us have been there for readings—-I  have gone there on more than one occassion and have sometimes had readings and others just wandered around the shops and had lunch—-small towns like this one are not something  you see every day.   But unlike most small towns it has a nice hotel and an excellent restaurant along it’s main street—Cassadaga Road (of course)

Cassadaga wass founded by Physics  from the north  well over 100 years ago and has remaind a Spiritualist colony ever since.    George P Colby came here from Pike, NY in 1875.  Pike a trance medium had traveled all over the US giving readings and seanances in the later 19th century. accompanied by his multiple spirit guides  including an American Indian and a German professor.

He eventually came to Florida then to the central area via the St. Johns RIver, he landed at that Blue Springs we visited last blog and following his guide’s directions and from that little trip we have the present town.    Oh and the town’s name means rocks beneath the water after a similar place in Yew York State.

Modern Spiritualism at a glance

Oh and for you that haven’t heard Spiritualism is considered a religion.  which makes the Association here technically the oldest continuously active religious community in the American Southeast.    and that religious community founded and developd the town you see today.   It’s interesting to contemplate.

I can’t imagione that the town you see today is too different from the original community—it is a quiet town with out even a traffic light.  A lovely place to walk about and enoy the peace and quiet yo’re not use to enjoy very often in our current crazy world. This place has 5 quiet wooded meditation areas, and when you compare this quaint little town to what you’re use to that’s alot to quiet time—without your mum’s enforcement.

I have heard it said that the town is full of eccentric spirits who seem to add to the whole ambiance.  I know my sister who is quite good at realizing spirits that are wandering  about found the town very occupied.   I find it a nice place to do a bit of  wandering and relaxing.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Ann Stevens House is recognized for both its frame vernacular architecture and its association with Ann Stevens, a remarkable individual who had a significant role in the development of the Cassadaga community. From its earliest beginnings in the 1890s, the Ann Stevens House operated as both a winter residence for Ann Stevens and rooming house. In the 1940s, it served war brides visiting the area due to its proximity to the Deland Naval Air Station. In 1993, the house was restored and operated as a Bed & Breakfast for 16 years, with a carriage house built in 1994 to provide additional guestrooms. The property was later restored and re-opened as a Bed & Breakfast in January 2013.
