Hampton Court Palace u- In the footsteps of Henry VIII – Hampton Court Tour

Main picture is a stone on the border of Stone Henge I believe this was my first trip there.  This stone isn’t part of the ancient stones circle that we know so well from pictures but there is more to the site than just the beautiful stones we are so us to seeing.

The next  of my pictures round and about London what year I’m not sure—think its the earlier trips.  One of the many ceremonies that go on daly in the lovely city.

Virtual A&H: Telephone Museum , Maitland, Florida

Maitland is located on US Hwy 17/92, approimately 6 miles east of I-4-.  The town stand abut 1 hour drive from both the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of FLorida.  Maitland is  in Orange County and  had a 2020 population of 16,785

A fort was built here in November, 1838 on what the Natives to the area called Lake Fumecheliga.  This was during the Seminole War but historians seem to agree that the fort was never attacked by the Native Seminole and in fact it was built up in the area while the army as trying to round up the Seminiles to move them to Oklahoma.  It was around this fort that the city of Maitland  grew up.

HAUNTED PLACES IN MAITLAND, FLORIDA

Built by Lt. Col. Alexander Fanning and named for an officer who served under him, William Seton Maitland.  He died of Malaria the year before having  contracted malaria as well as being wounded—the fort assured his name would live on.  And at this time the lake lost it’s native name and became Lake Maitland.

Fort Maitland

By 1842 the Fort was abandoned and shortly in ruins.  By the next year settlers had begun to arrive  with Free land thru the governent being a big draw.  A survey in 1846 included statistics on the Maitland area—-by 1872 there was a Lake Maitland Post Office in operation and eight years later (1880) The South Florida Railroad had extended a link from Sanford to the town.

Incorporated in 1885 (July) by the end of the year it had a newspaper:  The Maitland Courier.  By 1890 it also had a major estate built on a large tract of land which named Hiawatha Grove was built for and named by its owner Louis F. Dommrich, whose wife founded a library in 1896.  It officially became (just plain) Maitland in 1907.

Visiting the Old Bailey

While In London You might want to visit:

The Central Criminal Court

This is the country of England’s most famous law court.  It’s more often called “The Old Bailey”.  It was opened in 1907 and since then it has been involved in most if not all of Britain’s most infamous court cases of the last and present century.  The persons handing out the sentences are called “My Lord or Lady”  and it is said they have handed out tens of thousands of years sentences in prision since that early 19th century opening.

The illustrated story of the first ladies of the United States of America:

Women of the White House looks at the work, lives and times of the 47 women officially recognized as America’s first lady.

Through portraits, photographs, accounts and profiles, the book examines their contributions to the presidencies they supported and to the 230-year history of the role. The women who have held the position have evolved it from White House hostess to campaigner for social causes and a game-changing leadership position. A role model for the world, a powerful political player, a traditional yet modern woman – the position of first lady of the United States is many-faceted, complex and beyond high profile.

In this fully up-to-date book, Amy Russo explores how the social platforms these women established – from Mary Todd Lincoln’s work for slaves and soldiers after the Civil War to feminist icon Michelle Obama’s fight for girls’ education – have not only made the role iconic but also shaped America
