THE CREATURE THAT MAY BRING YOU LUCK OR NOT

Yesterday we looked at actions on our own part to avoid and why we (civilization as a whole cause I had no part of that—I’m not that old–stop laughing I’m not) think that way.  Today the non-human living beings that bring us concern.

“Snakes, with their legless bodies and bellies to the ground have…been…a bad omen and…symbol of evil….since the story of Adam and Eve…Snakes have frequently represented evil…One of the feats of St. Patrick …was to banish all snakes from thecountry…”   http://tvblogs.nationalgeographic.com/2012/05/28/bad-omens-animal-superstitions/   But looking closer  I found that this depends on the culture and even in Judo-Christian it varies with the writer. Read more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serpent_(symbolism)  it’s too long to deal with here.  So snakes bite and hid and frighten–hence their bad rap sometimes.

The Owl T. F. Thiselton-Dyer … Folk-lore of Shakespeare says that “from the earliest period it has been considered a bird of ill-omen,” and Pliny tells us how, …even Rome itself underwent a lustration, because one of them strayed into the Capitol.  …a funereal bird, a monster of the night, the very abomination of human kind. Virgil describes its death-howl…Ovidspeaks of this bird’s presence as an evil omen; and …the same notions respecting it may be found among the writings of most of the ancient poets.”…“omens drear” in John Keats‘ Hyperion includes the “gloom-bird’s hated screech.”  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owl.  Again we have a dweller in darkness—it’s cry is a howl in the night that frightens the traveler and awakes the sleeper.

“Black cats have played a major role for centuries in folklore, superstition, and mythology. Black cats in the middle ages were believed to be witches’ familiars, and some people even believed them to be witches incarnate. ” http://cats.about.com/od/catloreurbanlegends/a/blackcatlore.htm  So take an accepted animal, paint it the color of the night and make it  frightful?  Humans are an easily influenced lot.

How well superstitions work:   European Plague 1300’s– “certain communities killed off all of the village cats (color in 14th century wasn’t an issue) because of their supposed association with witches…irony …is… (rodent) parasites are primary vectors for… plague…removing the cats allowed the rodent population to burgeon and caused the plague to rage more…” lethally…http://faculty.washington.edu/walter/Killing%20Cats3.html

SCARY WEEK AND IT’S NOT EVEN OCTOBER

FRIDAY the 13 is coming up this week and it’s not just Friday the 13th, but its a Full Moon–now if that’s not scary I don’t know what is.  So this week I thought I’d deal with some superstitions that remain scary though we don’t know why anymore.  Maybe we never did. Today we look at specific actions:

Walking Under a Ladder:  Simple huh, it can fall on you and hurt you!  Nope: “according to Christian belief, a leaning ladder formed a triangle with the wall and the ground, that was supposed to represent the Holy Trinity. Walking under such a ladder, was equivalent to violating the Holy Trinity and was supposed to bring bad luck.”   http://www.buzzle.com/articles/bad-luck-superstitions.html Does that mean if you’re non-Christian it’s not bad luck?

The Spilling Salt Superstition:  It is considered bad luck to spill salt…In order to prevent the bad luck from settling on the salt spiller,…required to toss some of the spilled salt over his left shoulder. This … is supposed to act as a shield…must be done immediately … In ancient times salt was an expensive commodity…Wasting salt, therefore, was frowned upon…throwing the salt over the shoulder…In some Christian beliefs the Devil hangs about over the left … Spilling salt, seen as an invitation for the Devil …tossing said salt over the left shoulder puts it square in the devil’s face, just as he is on the attack.” http://www.timelessmyths.co.uk/spilling-salt.html

And  Breaking a mirror:  “…the act of breaking a mirror bring(s) one seven years of bad luck…The …mirror serving as a representation of the soul and number seven being associated with portentous events…so damaging a mirror also damages the soul of the one who broke it….Many sources tie the amount of bad luck brought about by breaking a mirror (i.e., seven years’ worth) to the Romans, who are said to have believed that life renewed itself every seven years.”

MAGIC, MYSTERY AND HUMOR ABOUND–BUT IS THERE A COVER-UP?

Last chance to be paranoid—but first my Friday Book Bloggy:  Sparks Fly (a novel of the light dragons) By Katie MacAlister.  I like this one and the dragons have continue to be hotly interesting (3rd in Light Dragon series–9 overall dragons) It’s fun but I really like her vampires better.

But wait have there been any cover-ups beside those in the books where dragons who spend most of their time as humans and can shift into their major ego at will and though they probably don’t live right next door as they’re too rich and sexy for my neighborhood at least; they do live among us (as in humans not my housing development).

According to an entry in Godlike Productions (.com):  “The Dinosaur myth is a mass cover up to hide the fact that REAL fire breathing dragons existed in the past.”  Not exactly a major authority but a start?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrPoi0SHWgE has a Youtube post with pictures of the moon with the theorist clicking on lines on a moon scape which he feels are dragons.
“nasa coverup alien dragons on moon”

http://powerpointparadise.com/livedragons/evolutio.htm site states:Live Dragons Living Dragons!  If the anti-God New World Order can deceive millions with 9-11 in plain sight, then a little “65 million year evolutionary dinosaur” hoax is swallowed easily!”  I’m not even going to ask.

Then there’s http://carolinemichelle.hubpages.com/hub/Do-Aliens-Exist-Three-Prominent-Alien-Types-Exposed:  One type:  “The alien Reptilian alleged to originate from Draco differs from Reptoids, its earth dwelling relative… While their height is also between 6 and 9 feet, this alien species also has wings made of bone covered with scales that span 6 to 7 feet. ..Certainly this description could easily fit the myth of dragons and winged gods found in ancient texts of Chinese, Greek and Indian origins.”

Believe in Cover-ups anyone–Google’s investigation:

Taxi The Great Coverup Latex Halloween Adult  Mask  $15

60s Swimsuit & Beach Cover Up Pattern $22

ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS ALLEGED COVER UPS:  The Roswell UFO incident took place in the U.S. in June or July 1947, when an airborne object crashed on a ranch near Roswell, NM . … Although the crash is attributed to a secret U.S. military Air Force surveillance balloon…the most famous explanation of what occurred is that the object was  spacecraft containing extraterrestrial life. Since the late 1970s, the Roswell incident has been the subject of much controversy…  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roswell_UFO_incident

100,000 YEARS OF LOST HISTORY WHERE THE LOW ARE ELEVATED OR FANCIFUL THINKING?

Continuing on Paranoia Week:  ATLANTIS AND THE KINGDOM OF THE NEANDERTHALS/Colin Wilson. (http://www.amazon.com/Atlantis-Kingdom-Neanderthals-Years-History/dp/1591430593)  In this our last book featured this week the author examines archaeological discoveries that he feels suggests that the Earth history is older than previously estimated.   While the earth is estimated to be 4 1/2 million years :  “All people today are classified as Homo sapiens.  Our species of humans first began to evolve nearly 200,000 years ago in association with technologies not unlike those of the early Neandertals.  It is now clear that early Homo sapiens, or modern humans, did not come after the Neandertals but were their contemporaries.  However, it is likely that both modern humans and Neandertals descended from Homo heidelbergensis.”  http://anthro.palomar.edu/homo2/mod_homo_4.htm  So we’ve accepted that modern man was here over 200,000 yrs. (prior there were other humanoids.)

NOTE THAT THIS IS EVOLUTIONARY NOT BIBLICAL BASED TIME LINE.

The book goes on to state that Atlantis existed: “Atlantis, a likely mythical island nation mentioned in Plato’s dialogues “Timaeus” and “Critias,” has been an object of fascination…2,400 years. Plato (c.424–328 B.C.) describes it ..(an) advanced kingdom that sank…in a day…9,600 B.C. The ancient Greeks were divided…whether Plato’s story was… (a) history or…metaphor.”  http://www.history.com/topics/atlantis  So this is debated as to origins and even Plato’s own age questioned if it were it was a fiction.

Finally he states that the founders of Atlantis were Neanderthals   “They’re the quintessential caveman….They were the first fossil member of our lineage to be found…they were (an)…lineage that died out.”  http://www.history.com/videos/discovering-neandrerthal#discovering-neanderthal “Neanderthals were absorbed to varying degrees into those spreading modern human populations……—some researchers contend that there is fossil evidence for interbreeding between late Neanderthal and early modern humans…”  http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/407406/Neanderthal

I could find no indication that any of these human ancestors had any particular advanced civilizations.  In fact:  “All physical evidence of the Neanderthals disappears around 30,000 years ago…(one)…view suggests that Ice Age climate fluctuations affected European flora and fauna, and that modern humans were better able to adapt than Neanderthals”  http://www.nhm.ac.uk/nature-online/life/human-origins/early-human-family/neanderthals/

Hardly seems like a civilization that built Atlantis, and the Pyramids.

So can Google find Atlantis?

EVEN THE VATICAN COMES UNDER THE SCRUTINY OF THE DOUBTER

Today I go where I tend to avoid (along with politics) in my discussions:  Religion.  The book is THE VATICAN HERESY/Robert Bauval and Chiara Hohenzollern with Sandra Zicari, Ph. D.  (http://www.amazon.com/The-Vatican-Heresy-Building-Hermetic/dp/1591431786)

This book states that St. Peter’s Square was influenced by both the Hermetic Movement (Hermeticism…is a religious and philosophical tradition based primarily upon pseudepigraphical writings attributed to Hermes Trismegistus (“Thrice Great”). These writings have greatly influenced the Western esoteric tradition and were considered to be of great importance during both the Renaissance  and the Reformation.  The tradition claims descent from…a doctrine which affirms that a single, true theology exists which is present in all religions and was given by God to man in antiquity. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermeticism  this doesn’t seem very threatening and many Catholic early leaders and saint apparently considered Hermes to be a ” wise pagan prophet who foresaw the coming of Christianity”)

and the Heliocentric Movement (“Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish astronomer who put forth the theory that the Sun is at rest near the center of the Universe, and that the Earth, spinning on its axis once daily, revolves annually around the Sun. This is called the heliocentric, or Sun-centered, system. ” http://www.nmspacemuseum.org/halloffame/detail.php?id=123) a form of natural magic (“Centuries earlier, Aristotle had refuted heliocentricity, and by Galileo’s time, nearly every major thinker subscribed to a geocentric view. Copernicus refrained from publishing his heliocentric theory for some time, not out of fear of censure from the Church, but out of fear of ridicule from his colleagues. ”  http://www.catholic.com/tracts/the-galileo-controversy  I find no indication that magic, though the uneducated man of the time, may well have considered science magic.)

Despite the rejection of the Church St. Peter’s Square in fact is the largest Sun Temple in the world built according to Hermatic principles.  (The open space which lies before the basilica was redesigned by Gian Lorenzo Bernini from 1656 to 1667,…as an appropriate forecourt, designed “so that the greatest number of people could see the Pope give his blessing…” )

All in all I found nothing compelling that the square was anything but a square that  contains come historical traditions but no real plot.

WHO KILLED LEWIS? BLUE EYED INDIANS? MORE SUPPRESSION BY WASHINGTON?

My week on the issue of suppressed history and apostate beliefs (tomorrow the Vatican comes into question).  The book today is THE SUPPRESSED HISTORY OF AMERICA by Paul Schrag and Xaviant Haze.  This book deals with the murder of  Meriwether Lewis which we will deal with first.   http://www.amazon.com/The-Suppressed-History-America-Discoveries/dp/1591431220

“Meriwether Lewis (August 18, 1774 – October 11, 1809) was an American explorersoldier…best known…as the leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition Their mission…to explore the territory of the Louisiana Purchase,,,, claim the Pacific Northwest and Oregon Country for the United States… President…Jefferson appointed him Governor of Upper Louisiana in 1806.   He died of gunshot wounds in what was either a murder or suicide, in 1809.”  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meriwether_Lewis

So there is a possibility of murder.  “Most historians agree that he committed suicide; others are convinced he was murdered. Now Lewis’s descendants and some scholars are campaigning to exhume his body…”   http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/meriwether-lewis-mysterious-death-144006713/#SvbqsiuphwVZZj0P.99    So if we can believe the Smithsonian (see yesterday’s entry) there’s a major disagreement here.

He was supposedly killed due to finds.  Why not Lewis as well (died of illness at age 69 a good old age for that century)?  http://answers.ask.com/society/history/when_did_lewis_and_clark_die

Finds supposedly included

Evidence of early explorers from Europe and Asia—This is accepted now so it isn’t suppressed now.

Strange monuments ??

“Nearly white, blue-eyed Indians—these were listed in Virginia much earlier than this and they have been noted throughout history–no cover I could find.

Fountain of Youth:  Then why did Clark die at 69.  I find no evidence of any of the party living on and on.

Long extinct race of giants (see yesterday’s entry)

He goes on to site 18th and 19th century newspapers (first the fact that they were notoriously less than accurate.  2nd if there was such a cover-up why didn’t the “powerful interests in Washington” shut them up too?) as source.

I don’t find much support on superficial exploration—-want to check it out  http://lewisandclarkjournals.unl.edu/   Includes his journals

WHAT’S YOUR ISSUE? PARANOIA WEEK BEGINS WITH GIANTS (JACK DID IT?)

This week I got a catalog from Inner Traditions (www.innertraditions.com) with several books on conspiracy  So  I’m going to deal with a few of these and see if I can dig deeper !!!

First let’s look at Giants:  There were two books (Lost Race of Giants/Patrick Chuinard  http://www.amazon.com/Lost-Race-Giants-Influence-throughout/dp/1591431484  and The Ancient Giants Who Ruled America/Richard J. Dewhurst http://www.grahamhancock.com/forum/DewhurstR1.php, there’s also a third book on suppresed history of America that includes the giants but we’ll wait till tomorrow as this has several other topics as well).

“Stonemason and historical detective, Jim Vieira,..he stumbled upon remarkable accounts of anomalous human skeletons being discovered. According to the reports from the time, the skeletons ranged from 7 to 11 feet tall and had skulls which sported double rows of teeth. “There are thousands of these accounts,”   https://socioecohistory.wordpress.com/2013/01/03/jim-vieira-the-suppressed-evidence-of-giants-ceremonial-structures/

Listing pictures and information from newspapers of previous centuries as proof isn’t very useful because there were notorious hoaxes written up to sell papers (even Twain admitted doing it) and would be hard to confirm a hundred years later.

As for height  “Robert Pershing Wadlow  reached 8 ft 11.1” …due to hyperplasia of his pituitary gland.”  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Wadlow.  So if you dug up his body a thousand years from now, one could speculate on giants in our times–there are and have been non-conformist to all norms.

In Dewhurst book he goes on to say that the Smithsonian generally (staring in 1879 John Wesley Powell),,,have suppressed skeletons that have been found.  Other books site the fact that a certain skelton was not display showed cover- up, however:  “Only a small portion of the Smithsonian’s collections (estimated at less than 2 percent) is on display in the museums at any given time. ”  http://newsdesk.si.edu/factsheets/fact-sheet-smithsonian-collections .   Reason for the cover-up is the institution launching a pro-evolution, pro-Manifest Destiny agenda.

Chouinard’s book postulates that giants are true earthborn race and that they engaged in conflict with gods who created humanity for forced labor.

A RICHLY DETAILED, ALMOST INDECENTLY THRILLING MYSTERY BUT NO FRIES!

FRIDAY AND WITH IT MY WEEKLY BOOK NOTES ARE BACK;  This week I am into the 3rd of the Mistress of the Art of Death series (there are four  http://www.goodreads.com/series/44043-mistress-of-the-art-of-death ) by Ariana Franklin.  In this one heroine Adelia Aguilar a woman doctor living in Henry II’s England is sent to Glastonbury Abbey by the King to prove King Arthur is dead (and not according to legend just sleeping awaiting a call to free the people from opression like Henry who is in the line of invader Norman’s Kings) to help him stamp out ongoing rebellion.  But there is a fire and two bodies found, who are the victims and since the church is involved the Bishop is in attendance as well and our Adelia (who must deal with prejudices (against women doctors) and superstitions  (against just about everything else) must then also deal with the Bishop of St. Albans, the father of her daughter and a man she still loves despite his taking the vows of the church.  The history in the book is fantastic, trumped only by the characters and of course the mystery all blended in a plot that kept me glued to the pages

One more May involving note (not a day–I promised yesterday no more):  Americans will consume more than 7 billion hot dogs between Memorial Day and Labor Day.  That’s more than 20 hot dogs per person, or about one and a half hot dogs per week.

Hot dog type eats have been around for a long time:  “Sausage is one of the oldest forms of processed food, having been mentioned in Homer’s Odyssey as far back as the 9th Century B.C.”  http://www.hot-dog.org/ht/d/sp/i/38594/pid/38594

“The sausages were culturally imported from Germany… and popularized in the United States. Hot dog preparation and condiment styles also vary regionally across the United States.”  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_dogVintage

SO HOW DOES GOOGLE SERVE UP IT’S DOG COLLECTIBLES–HOT DOG THAT IS:

Hallmark Hot Dog Valentine Card  $7

Play Hot Dog Oscar Mayer $10

Retro Hot Dogs Always Hot & Fresh  Metal Sign  $11 (multiple types up to $40)

Frankie The Keener Wiener Cloth Doll Nip Superior Hot Dogs … $196

“World’s most expensive hot dog: New York’s 230 Fifth’s… $2,300 creation made out of 60-day-aged wagyu and topped with Vidalia onions caramelized in Dom Perignon, sauerkraut braised in Cristal, and caviar”

JUST ONE MORE MAY MISSED DATE: IS THERE DANCE LESSONS INCLUDED?

This is the last May Day I promise.  May 14th was Dance Like A Chicken Day.  I just knew you wouldn’t forgive me if I missed this one.  My first question is how do chickens dance?    My research found that Chickens have nothing to do with it:  “The “Chicken Dance,” also known as the Birdie Song, is an oom-pah song and its associated fad dance is now a contemporary dance throughout the Western world. The song was composed by accordion (Handharmonika) player Werner Thomas from DavosSwitzerland, in the 1950s.”  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_Dance     But that got me wandering about other ah….unusual “Fad” dances.

There’s  the Bunny Hop (1950’s) and was from a song by Ray Anthony’s Big band sound.  ” The dance is a variation on a conga line. Participants dance in a line, holding on to the hips of the person in front of them. They tap the floor two times with their right foot, then with their left foot, then they hop forwards, backwards, and finally three hops forward to finish the sequence, which continues throughout the tune. The first person in the line leads the group around the floor.”  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bunny_hop_(dance)

The 1930’s had a Grind Snake dance which appears from what I read to be a bit on the sexy side.  It is not to be confused with dances where scantily dressed women move about with large snakes wrapped about  necks.

And the 60’s added food to the mix with :  “The Mashed Potato…a dance move which was a popular dance craze of 1962. It was danced to songs such as Dee Dee Sharp’Mashed Potato Time….the move vaguely resembles that of the twist, by…Chubby Checker.”  http://www.the60sofficialsite.com/Dance_Crazes_of_the_60s.html

My favorite (2009) Jamaican dance The Dagger, where one partner laid on the floor and the partner jumped from height on top (among other moves).  It was actually banned by the Jamaican Government.  Can you say pelvic injuries.

So shall we collect the dance…my first dance to Google:

Chubby Checker Your TWIST Party vinyl 33 LP $4

Fame Rock N Roll World Vinyl Record LP 1983 TV Show   $13

Feedsack “novelty” \ballet Dancer” 100% Cotton Quilt  $20

My nominee for most famous dancer:  Salome, who danced for her father King Herrod —her prize  John the Baptist’s head.

MISSED MAY DATE #2: A MEMORIAL I MISSED

Did you know that there was another Memorial Day in May–this one on the 9th:  LOST SOCK MEMORIAL DAY.   This day was made to remember that other sock that disappeared in the Laundry Room Triangle going from the washer, to the  dryer and the sock drawer never to be seen again.  A small comfort for the sock’s owner, the laundress and the survivor of the pair(it is very rare for both socks to disappear).

I know you’re shaking your head and saying where do all these holidays come from?  Well it seems that “The President of the United States has the authority to declare a commemorative event or day by proclamation. Fewer than 150 are granted in an average year across all categories. ”  http://www.thenibble.com/fun/more/facts/food-holidays.asp

For instance:

July is Hot Dog Month

Weekly Celebrations:
Be Nice To New Jersey Week, Freedom Week, National Laundry Worker’s Week, Take Charge of Change Week, Great Circus Parade Week, National Therapeutic Recreation Week, Captive Nations Week, National Salad Week  http://www.emotionscards.com/locations.html

“Petitions are introduced by constituents, trade associations or public relations firms to honor industries, events, professions,  hobbies, etc. The Senate issue commemorative resolutions which do not have the force of law. Some state legislatures and governors proclaim special observance days, as do mayors of cities, which is why there can be a National Chocolate Day and a National Chocolate Month, as well as two National Guacamole Days—authorized at different levels of government. After the observance day has been authorized, it is up to the petitioner to promote it to the public.”  http://www.thenibble.com/fun/more/facts/food-holidays.asp#proclaimed

Some others:

January 22nd:  Answer your Cat’s Questions Day

February:  Return Shopping Carts Month

March 1:  National Pig Day

June 2: Yell “Fudge” at Cobras Day
