Casselberry is named for:  Hubbard Casselberry, a Navy veteran of World War I with a mechanical degree from Yale who had little interest in the family hardware businss in suburban Chicago.  Instead in the 1920’s  he headsed south to Seminole County whsere his mother had a winter home nearby.   He bought hundreds of acres surrounding the Triplet Chain of Lakes, where he incorporated his town in 1940.

Where to Celebrate the Winter Solstice

There are celebrations all about the globe to commemorate the return of the sun (after the first day of winter–the shortest day of the year).   And these ceremonies go back into time, while seemingly behavior and many of the clebration components have been incorporated into the Christian’s celebration and hence are part of our modern celebrations. Example of these are the use of the Druid’s sacred plants,  holly and mistletoe as well as the yule log—and don’t forget Santa which has been compared to the Holly King.

It’s said that Ireland is much more into Christmas than Scotland as the Scottish church viewed it as pagan and idolatrous…..even today Scotland is more involved in Hogmany—the New Years Eve Celebration

A Very Merry Morris Music at the Morris Virtual Concert: Enjoy a selection of Holiday classic tunes from the Crescent Brass band! — #morrismuseumofart

Among the most astonishing objects in the Tiffany collection are the brilliantly colorful windows, mosaics, Byzantine-Romaneque architectural elements and furnishings of the chapel he created for the World’s Columbian Exposition at Chicago in 1893.  The chapel has been reassembled and is open to the general public for the first time in more than 100 years.  It was Tiffany’s work at the 1893 position and especially the chapel that established him as a univerally acknowledged member of the small international circle of leading artists/designers of the period–and the only American in that group.

Christmas has ARRIVED in Soho!

Soho & Fitzrovia:  These two adjoining areas couldn’t be more different.  Soho is one of the major night life centers of London whilst the more straid and stately Fitzrovia designates a greater portion of its streets to office and residential useage.  However, the entire area is teeming with bars, cafes and restaurants catering to evry possible taste and the sheer numbers involved have forged many inferior establishment out and others to up their game.  With the Bohemian history of Fitzrovia and the reputation of Soho’s media hub of London, it is no great surprise that  clandestine meetings and boozy business lunches are still a regular occurances of restaurants such a the Gay Husser and the French House.
