“Ostara, also known as Eostre, was a pagan goddess of fertility.  Easter the Christian festival, which lies near the spring equinox, derives its name and its symbols from her.  The Easter egg, for example was originally Ostara’s emblem, a sign of her wholeness and unfailing fertility.  Such was the power of her fertility that estrogen, the hormone that prompts egg production in women, is named after her.  Ostera’s arrival was marked by the blossoming of yellow flowers such as primross and daffodils and by the fresh green leaves.”

This picture was taken on my first trip to London—I stayed in the city for 3 weeks–two by myself (except for the 4 day tour that I took to Wales–It was one of those smaller tours—only 3 of us went me and two other women )—This is just a random picture as I walked about the city–something I did alot—I was amazed at the quanity of the flowers that were present in the great metropolis.

Oh and our quote for the Day is from

The Big Easy Poster 1

The Big Easy (1986) on Netflix

R
A film that captures the steamy, colorful essence of New Orleans, this crime thriller tells the romantic story of a classy detective whose investigation of a gangland murder lands him in trouble with the city’s new District Attorney, a woman with a rigid penchant for following the letter of the law. Despite their differences, the two manage to work together and eventually fall in love. Unfortunately all of this leads them to have to fight for their lives when their investigation into the case and the corruption surrounding it gets them bumped up to the top of a hit man’s list. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi
I love this story and  Dennis Quade does such a job as the Hot,  sexy Cajun Police Detective  Remy McSwain—that smile and when he meets Anne Osburn—Elen Barkin a woman much better at investigation than she is with matters of the heart or even the body—-that is until Remy changes her luck…the luck scene—WOW…..you don’t have to have nudity to make the screen heat up and these two prove it to a top degree—and the drama and the police corruption and the investigation and the question of loyality and legalities in the Big Easy– city of New Orleans is all put together to keep one or all of your emotions and involvement on track.

Altamonte Springs

In 1887 a spring was found in Lake Adelaide, and the citizens changed its name  of the city the city to its present inclusion of that discovery.  The town at that time had one big draw–the Altamonte Hotel which was eventually destroyed by fire in 1953.

The town today is made up of retail stores and office centers as well as a  residential communities.

Most of the city’s businesses are along 436 —including the Altamonte Mall https://www.altamontemall.com/en.html   Also there’s  an Advent Health as well as numerous professional building and many restaurants.  The city library and cultural center is on Maitland Ave.

key west cemetery USS Maine e1349574131715 Historic Key West cemetery: A scenic stop that is full of stories

Grave of a sailor who died on the USS Maine at Key West Cemetery.

Key West’s Cemetery

Dating from 1847 the cemetery is located in the center of Old Town.  The streets about it are Angela, Margaret, Passover Lane, Francis and Olivia.  Orginally on another part of the island  it was moved to what would pass for higher ground only in Key West—but it is the highest point on island.  The reports of the previous cemetery which was at the Southern Most Point sayes that the 1847 hurricane destroyed the whole of the place—ripping out tomb stones and scattering bodies about the island some even lodged in trees.

View of Key West Cemetery.

The current area is full of the bizzare and the subline from a memorial and final resting place for sailors killed with the destruction of the Maine, to a plot where it is said the family spent an entire fortune burying family members and assorted pets–including a deer.

Here you’ll see the Victorian graves with their symbolic decor–The Calla Lily (for majestic beauty), Lily of the Valley (Bride), A lamb or cherub (for a child’s stone) or an urn (an adult) as well as wreaths (for eternity) Roses for love, Ivy for immortility and clasped hands for farewell and Friendship—-to name a few.
