“And then there is the most dangerous risk of all – the risk of spending your life not doing what you want, on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later.” – Randy Komisar

PRINCE PHILIP, DUKE OF EDINBURGH

  • Prince Phillip:  He and his wife share the same great-great-grandmother — Queen Victoria — making them third cousins. Born in Greece, the young prince was forced into exile at the age of one, sailing away to safety in a makeshift crib made out of a fruit box.  His mother Princess Alice of Battenberg, was congenitally deaf and at the age of 45 was diagnosed with schizophrenia, which she strongly protested. After being exiled from Greece, the princess joined the Greek Orthodox Church, going on to found a nursing order of Greek Orthodox nuns.  Philip started corresponding with Elizabeth when she was just 13 years old, and the rest is history.

This station was built early in the 20th century (1917).  It is Prairie style architecture with low pitched roof, triangular knee braces, concrete curse, hip dormer, symmetrical design and hip=with ridge elements.  It replaced an earlier dept which was relocated to serve as a freight house.  It opened  May 9, 1918 and served as a depot until the railroad ceased to function in 1943 when the VFW bought it for their headquarters.

London:The first thousand years…may not be buried quite as deep as the ruins of ancient troy, but they are still, perhaps, more difficult to get at as 20th c. London is vital and busy above them, a controlled strategy of archaeological excavation is generally impractical.  The cultural remains of the millennium are therefore fragmentary, some surviving patches of the lower part of the Roman wall, the ground work of the Mithraic Temple.  A somewhat hap-hazard collection mainly of bits and pieces, tessellated pavements, sculpture, as well as debris of domestic life, now concentrated mainly in London and the Guildhall museum, plus some important pieces in the British Museum.

Finding Calm in the Storm – Resilience in the Midst of the COVID-19 Crisis

Wind Moon:  Look at the Moon tonight, hopefully you can see it  If there are clouds, watch the way they move across the Moon’s face.  Loose yourself in this for a moment.  The Moon is far removed from our atmosphere, but sometimes we forget, because the wind seems to sweep across its surface.  But all  is still calm on the Moon.  This is a centering ritual for times when things are unsettled–picture yourself like the Moon, distant from our atmosphere, the wind is far away, you remain untouched.

Southwark Cathedral

Southwark Cathedral

This is the oldest building in Southwark and the oldest Gothic Church in London–mentioned in the Domesday Book

it is speculated that there was a church on this site since 606 AD and in fact a dig found a Roman hunter god statue on the grounds.

There is a carved stone memorial with Chaucer, John Bunyan, and Shakespeare ,

all of whom are set to have attended here–Edmund—Shakespeare’s younger broth was buried here in Dec. 1607.

Legend has it that Thomas Becket preached here in the 12th century and made his final journey to his death at Canterbury from here.

Cedar Key—is one of my favorite destination in Florida.  And I’m not the only one who liked it—Hemingway wrote The Snows of Kilimanjaro here in fact.

There’s the Island Hotel which is said to predate the Civil War. and the town is just great to do something many of you–including me—are not good at:  relaxing:  Sip some wine

while setting besides the sea—or just stroll along a dock or beach—relax it is good for you honest.

There’s art and antiques on 2nd street and a newer retail and restaurant pier.

and two museums full of history:

One a state Park:   important feature of the museum is the Saint Clair Whitman house,  built in the 1880’s and acquired by Whitman in the 1920’s. The house has been restored to depict life in Cedar Key c. 1920 – 1930.

and the Cedar Key Historical Society and Museum

and they even have a self-guided walking tour of the town.

of course you might stop for a drink or even stay for the night life

and we all know bartenders knows the town or in this case island better than anyone.

Rathdrum Destination Guide

Rathdrum, Ireland is a beautiful picturesque town situated about 10 miles south west of Rathnew.  It is also the film capital of Ireland and one could go on a cinematic pub crawl because nearly every pub has been immortalized in a film of one type or another.

Snow’s BBQ Lexington, TX

Lexington, Tx:  Grazing horses create a pastoral scene and mark the approach to quiet, out-of-the-way Lexington, the oldest town in Lee County.  Settled in 1850, it grew with the arrival of the railroad in 1890.   Pioneer Village, at one end of the lovely town square, consists of two authentic log cabins relocated to this spot–a single rustic cabin and a dogtrot cabin with a detached kitchen.
