Places to Visit in Cornwall: 30 Epic and Beautiful Spots
Strikingly like Brittany in physical aspects, Southern and Western Cornwall is a land of the sea, of rolling plains and moorlands rather than high hills and Mountains. A land of golden yellow blooms, while noisy crowds of black crows and white sea gulls mingle together over the freshly turned or new-sown fields, and where in the spring-time the call of the cookoo is heard with the song of the sky lark. Like the Isle of Man, from the earliest ages Cornwall has been a meeting-place and a battle ground for contending races. The primitive dark Iberian peoples gave way before Aryan-Celtic invaders, and these to Romans and then to Germanic invaders.

Altamonte Springs
The name Altamont is from the Spanish for high hill and that was the name without the E or the Springs, that it was originally know by (the name was from the original post office of that name that set on Lake Brantley) . It could have remained just thst backwoods hamlet except for the railroad that came through the area and it’s station set on 2,100 acres at Snow Station.

Then came the
Altamonte Hotel
which was built among tall pines and mossy oaks. It had 130 rooms, 49 fireplaces and a 500 foot veranda. This grand hotel catered to the rich and famous for 70 year finally ending its days the victim of a great fire in 1953. But before that time it’s guests included Presidents U.S. Grant, as well as Grover Cleveland and Harrison. Thomas Edison also spent some time here as well.

In 1887 Springs was added to the town’s name and by 1889 the population was 250. From 1892 – 1909 Henry Herman Westinghouse

We stayed there like 10 years ago—stayed in a big corner room —you can see the one window that is in the middle of the picture on 2ns story. We were very close to Glastonbury Abbey’s ruins which we could see from the window—that was our driving trip and I was behind the wheel for this bit—was my second trip to Glastonbury—enjoyed the visit very much.
