The 15 Best Small Towns to Visit in 2023
Once again, it’s time to slow down our pace and look at those things that make America’s small towns grand: the opening of a new museum that’s been seven years in the making, a community coming together in honor of a prolific local author, and an annual Victorian Christmas celebration that’s been transforming downtown streets for 30 years. These are places that are rich in Blues music and Native American history, offer regional dining favorites like chile rellenos and fish fries, and boast walkable streets and remarkable national parks and monuments at their doorsteps.

Caddo Mounds State Historic Site: Texas
The Caddo Aboriginal People
populated
East Texas Piney Woods
for more than 1,200 years and it is felt that they were responsible for influencing as well as shaping this part of the present day state. This influence included creating extensive trade routes and their atistry in creating pottery and a rich variety of durable good. In fact that pottery is reportedly felt to be the finest of that created by all the aboriginal peoples in North America.
They are also known for their Earthern mounds in dozens of sites in this same region, that were use as temples as well as some for civic functions not to mentional burial sites for their leaders.

Glastonbury :I have been been to this southwestern English town several times—and stayed there for a time as well. I have also been caught up in the possibility that it might actually be Avalon and yes I know Avalon was an island—but then so was Glastonbury or really the Tor (picture above). Studies and digs have shown that this was the site of an in land sea—or at least large lake from which the Tor and other higher lands rose as islands along it’s depths.

‘King Arthur’s Tomb’ – Glastonbury, England
there is legnd that King Artthur was buried here at the abbey and his tomb was found but all lost eventually. it is not in my beliefs as I believe Arthur was a chiefton (modern people use the word king all too oten around this land when I feel the rulers here were more like Clan Chieftons in the Highlands of Scotland rather than the more pompous King that came into power later on.) of the last of the pagans of this Celtic heritage lands and that it is Christianity that helped end his line—or at least their beliefs and that could be a great change while still maintaing the blood line.

On the other hand in modern day Glastonbury is more famous for it’s annual music festival than it is for any King of questionable heritage and his followers (or otherwise).
