Fort Christmas Historical Park
The park includes a replica of a fort built in 1837 during the Second Seminole Indian War; a traditional Florida “Cracker” house and eight pioneer homes; a schoolhouse and lunchroom; a sugar cane mill and other historical farming equipment.
‘
The pictures on the above page were all taken at one of my visits to the park—-which sets in the small town of Christmas, Fl which sets on the edge of land that still is more wilderness than civilization. And the homes, fort and other buildings are best appreciated in this setting that feels or at least appears to, what it must have been like when this fort was built and these house would have been, which to me makes it more agreeable.

Keeping Demons Away
Region Norther Europe:
Originated Pre-Christian era. Decorating our home with evergreen plants such as holly, ivy and misletoe is a pagan tradition that has remained a main stay of our Christmas celebrations to this day. Evergreens were a symbol of eternal life during the cold and dark winter months and it is believd they provided luck and protected your home from evil spirits and demons that wreaked havoc over the winter Solstice. But sometimes decorating the home wasn’t enough, and it was actually necessary to walk around your home, equipped with your evergreen choice to scare away the devilish friends who were still lurking around. So the next time you think you have a sneaky spirit attempting to cause chaos during festivities, grab yourself a bunch of holly and chase them away.

30 OF THE MOST HAUNTED HOTELS IN THE WORLD TO BOOK FOR HALLOWEEN
Now this looks like a fun place to spend Halloween:
check out the Hurlers, the golden cup and the stack of spooky rocks and don’t forget the Minion town.
This stone circle is near the village of Minions
and between the Rivers Fowey and Lynher
The stones in the circle vary in shape but are the same height. Legend says that they were men turned to stone for breaking the Sabbath for hurling a ball. It is said that if you correctly count the number of the standing stones something bad will happen to you.
OK we can skip that.

Be sure to check out the informative Video toward the end of the article.
It is said that a Daniel Gumb, a stone cutter lived near here with his wife and children in a rough shelter of tumbled stones. He was a student of astronomy. phylosophy, and mathmetics and it is said that he the cared geometric figures which he signed and dated 1937 on a rock here.

There had long been a legend of a Druid who owned a gold cup which had an inexhaustiable supply of water for thirsty travelers. Then an ancient barrow was excavated in the early 1800’s and buried there alongside a skelton lay a gold cup. Some say it was a druid of course.

On the same moors that the grave was found is the Cheesewring tower above the quay near the Hurler’s ring and the town of Minion—-it is a strange formation of naturally weathered granite…….one of the things you will see alot of if you frequent the moors that dot this country is strange “natural” formations along with stone circles and all manor of natural and not so much of items that amazes and sometimes sends a chill running down your spine.

New Salem Primitivee Baptist Church was constituted in 1922 when members of the Orthodox Primitive Baptist Church split to form two churches, the other of which was Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church (located in the community of Georgetown). The bell on display at the site is the original bell from the Orthodox Primitive Baptist Church, which was located at 8th Street and Palmetto Avenue. The land for the church was donated by General Henry Sanford for creation of an African-American church.

Halloween events in Edinburgh
Ok nothing planned for Halloween—-as you know my whole idea for this blog is to give you suggestions for something to do, setting around doing nothing NOT an OPTION–SO-how about a little Halloween carving:
Go traditional Scottish and carve a terrifying turnip instead of a pumpkin this Halloween
The origins of Halloween can be traced back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (summer’s end). The Celtic year was determined by the growing seasons and Samhain marked the end of summer and the harvest, and the beginning of the dark cold winter. The festival symbolised the boundary between the world of the living and the world of the dead. It was believed by the Celts that on the night of 31st October, ghosts of the dead would walk again amongst them, and large bonfires were lit in each village in order to ward off any evil spirits. All house fires were put out and new fires lit from these great bonfires.

In the old days there were tours of the gardens which were beautiful with many tropial plants and palms. We alway wandered into the gardens fom the Pelican Poop shop because it was such a lovely area and worth the fee to do so. Most recently I have heard that they now havee a new owner and that they no longer allow any admissions to the gardeens—-which makes me sad.
Nightmare Insects: The Terrifying 10
If you’re going to visit a mosquito habitat for vacation—summer —but further south and into the caribean and the like this might be helpful
Many readers claim that rubbing apple cider vinegar on your skin helps to repel insects. If you take in enough apple cider vinegar by putting it on foods you eat, you’ll dvelop a body odor that will repel insects, including black flies. One great and refreshing summer drink for this purpose is switchel, made from apple cider vinegar.
Lemon eualyptus oil is recommnded by the CDC to repel mosquitoes, as is picaridin–on the skin only of course.
If you are going to use a DEET repellent, do not use one with more than 25% DEET. Unlike the SPF rating in sunscreens, higher concentrations of DEET doesn’t mean more protection.
