Best 14 Thames river boat trips and tours

The wreck of a WWII ship in the Thames estuary will be partially dismantleed to reduce the chances of it exploding.  According to proposals by the UK government, the steel masts of the SS Richard Montgomery’s–an American vessel that ran aground in August 1944– three masts will be cut back to prevent them from collapsing and accidentally detonating the 1,400 tons of explosives thought to remain within the ship’s hull.  effort to remove the vessel’s dangerous cargo shortly after the grounding were halted by the Admirality due to the huge financial costs involved.

Putnam County Map

Could you  Find Adventure in Putman County?  Maybe a Road Trip?

Let’s see we could visit;

Estoniah Creek State Park

Total Acreage: 8,902

&  491 feet of lake frontage

A park with large areas to roam and is a hang out of black bears.  There’s also:  white-tailed deer, bobcat, fox squirrel, wild turkey, eastern diamondback rattlesnake (ok good idea to wear hiking boats and avoid off trail adventures) and barred owl.

Acivity includes:   hiking, biking fishing, hunting, nature study, wildlife viewing and photography.   So we could spend a couple hours there at least

Oh and I also found this Florida Trail, Etoniah West:  On a 3.5-mile segment of the Florida Trail in Etoniah State Forest, you’ll encounter the rare Etonia rosemary and a number of sinkholes in the pine forests and scrub.  If you’re in to long walks that is.

There’s Florahome which is near the Park:  Florahome is an unincorporated community in Putnam CountyFlorida, United States, located on State Road 100. The town was established in 1899 by the Georgia Southern and Florida Railway. The streets are laid in a grid system. Streets north and south are named for trees or shrubs. Streets east and west are named for states or provinces. Early in the town’s history, it was surrounded by swamps. These were drained when canals were dredged by the Etoniah Canal and Drainage Company. Florahome was also once an island and was drained of all its water to make way for crops, animals, and homes. The town is built upon a sandy hill rising from the swampy areas.

It has a Dolllar General—-ah OK

10 miles on down the road after a walk thru of Florahome we could try

Interlachen

The Town of Interlachen was settled in the late 1870’s when the building of a railroad opened the area. It developed as both a citrus growing center and a winter resort. When severe freezes in the 1890’s made it apparent that commercial citrus production was not economically viable, the town evolved into a retirement haven and later a bedroom community for Gainesville and Palatka.

Well you get the idea—-you can look for shopping, museums, historical areas more parks—whatever is of interest to you—also since it’s  road trip gas stations.   Place to stay from B&Bs to motels and the like—the internet is good for this, but books about the area—I know outdated but they often have hidden facts on the sites that might interest you but are not the web–so just saying.

Too much work—-well how about (never tried and don’t know about– but might be of interest to check them out:

Sacred Sites

Wells & Springs are places of transition, where the underworld rises out of the ground.  They encourage song and dance, they are the site of rituals.  The plythora of London names such as Spring Gardens, Well Walk and Wells Street testifies to the extent and variety of these waters.  We also have Shadewell and Stockwell and Camberwell.  It would be weary work to enumerate all the buried wells of London.  It is enough to know that they all existed.

The Bayeux Tapestry is a work of embroidery depicting the story of the Norman Conquest.  It is stitched with woolen yarn treated with vegetable dyes on panels of woven linen…that are assembled to form a continuous banner 224.3 feet long.  The tapestry  was commissioned in 1078 by Odo, the Bishop of Bayeux and half brother of William the Conqueror.
