New Orleans Things To Do – Official New Orleans Tourism

The French founded New Orleans in 1718, naming it for the Duke of Orleans. At that time, the term “Creole” referred to non-Indigenous people born in colonized countries of the Americas. This

was the era of enslavement, so early on, the term was exclusively for white people. In New Orleans, that meant the children of the white French ruling class.

But the distinction didn’t stick. “Creole” gained a more general meaning, and people born in the colonies who had mixed ancestry or parents from Africa were also called “Creoles.” The Important Distinction Between “Creole” and “Cajun”

Marie Antionette

was widely known as Madame Deficeit on account of her largely uncontrolled spending.  She even had an immacutely appointed theatre installed in the continually upgraded Palace of Versaille.  Such lavish expenditures when France was starting into a financial abyess served only to turn up the heat on the monarchy.  Versailles became a symbol of its decadence, as well as the destination of a weapon carrying     underclass with revolt on their minds.

Visit Lindisfarne – Plan your visit to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne

Was Linisfarne the First Viking Attack in Britain?

“The woeful in-roads of heathen men destroyed God’s Church in Lindisfarne Island , by fierce robbery and slaughter”  Was how the Anglo-Saxon Chronicals recorded the Norse raid on the Northhumbian Monestary of Lindisfarne in AD 793Alcuin of York’s account as more graphic.  “The pagans have contaminated the sanctuaries of God, and have pouredout the blood of the saints about the altar…(they) have trampled upon the bodies of the saints in the temple of God like dung in the street.”

The Holy Island of Lindisfarne【4K】| Northumberland Island Walk 2021

As to if it was the first place to be raided this is questionable—while this site BBC History Reveales says (other sites do not all agree):  “Probably the most well knon and shocking.  but an attack on what is now known as Dorset’s Coast in 787 or possibly 789 AD reported  that 3 ships of Norsemen landed and killed the oval Reeve.   (Please note that Lindisfarne’s date appears to be exatly date—-it was an island of a religious order who would have kept track of such things and written the date down—it is so—far as I found—the earliest that is specific).

Abernethy Round Tower

Although common in Ireland, this 11th c tower at Abernethy, Pethshire,  is one of only two  round towers to survive in Scotland.  The function of these towers are debated, but in addition to housing bells they were probably “treasuries” for the portable wealth of the monestery.
