Lady’s Beautiful Guide to Belgravia, London

This area is Belgravia.  In the 18thc and early 19th c the Wellborne River ran through here which was composed of desolate fields and muddy swamps but it eventually was drained and covered and became Belgravia.

10 Top Historic Sites in Mount Dora

A long time ago I fell in love with Mt. Dora—–the quaint town that still maintained so much of it’s past and lots of that was the buildings and houses that survive.

Darby House- A Mount Dora Historical Home

On 340 W 9th Ave

is a 1920’s home built for a winter occupant (or so assummed),   Jacob Himelberger, but ten years later a Jean Hendrie of Sewickly, Pa, an aunt of a doctor who also lived on 9th, owned it.  What’s outstanding about this house is that is was unusual for Victoria Bungalows like this to be built in the 1920’s

When Hollywood Came to Mount Dora

Mount Dora, FL 32757
This house is thought to be built by Emma Watts, widow of Charles, who purchased it from the Cranes in 1915.  This house is of not for it’s lack of alterations:   beautiful example of single style bungalow.

And did I mention its located on a hill side–at least by Forida Standards?

And please don’t miss Pices Rising a restaurant devloped by former occupants of Key West—Originally a house it is now a restaurant which incorporates that same ( and entire) house at its center and uses it for a second floor addition to the restaurants seating area.  Oh and the rest (including 2 bars one inside and one outside on the deck overlooking the lake) is great to visit for the character of the place—great staff, wonderful views  and before I forget–the food is excellent.

SCOTTISH CLANS & ANCESTRY: TOP SITES TO VISIT IN SCOTLAND

The Sottish Kings establshed their authority in Lowland Scotland–the area south of the Clyde and the Forth plus the North Sea coastlands far sooner than the Highlands.  The MacDonalds with their fleet of fast war galleys, were Lords of the Isles, ruling the Western Isles and  the Western sea  as virtually independent potentates, while authority in the Highlands was wielded by clan chiefs.  A clan was theoretically an extended family (the word means children in Galeic) with the chief as its patriarch, but in practice it included men of Norse (MacLeod), Norman (Gordan and Fraser) and Flemish (Murray) origins, but the Highlands and Islands were pe-eminenty the refuge of the old Celtic culture of Scotland Scots.  Gaelic survived there after it had ceased to be used in the Lowlands, along with traditional costume, poetry, music and lore.
