Things to Do in Oxnard,  CA

Crealdé School of Art is a nonprofit community arts organization located in Winter Park, Florida. Since 1975, Crealdé has provided community-based hands-on arts experiences to people throughout Central Florida. In 2007, through a partnership with the City of Winter Park, Crealdé opened the Hannibal Square Heritage Center to expand our capacity for fulfilling our mission of making the arts available to everyone. We offer over 125 visual arts classes and humanities-based programs at our two Winter Park locations, and we have branched out into the City of Winter Garden, offering classes at the Jessie Brock Community Center. Read more about our history and missions, become a member, attend a gallery event, take a class, and celebrate community arts with us all year long!

10 Ways to Find Cool Places Near You (& Plan the Perfect Staycation!)

There are different levels with getting involved with this lovely, generally quiet small area about some buildings—most the area outside  displays art work with several pieces that has been there for long enough to become old “friends” to someone like me who love this area to brighten my day.

Established in 1997, the lakeside Contemporary Sculpture Garden is located on the grounds at Crealdé School of Art’s main campus and is open to the public. A self-guided tour leads visitors through the attractively landscaped Crealdé campus and approximately 60 three-dimensional pieces of outdoor art and educational panels. The sculptures are used to teach field trip children about the diversity of expressive styles and durable media available to the sculptor.

And did I mention the classes?????

Ceramics courses begin with basic handbuilding and functional ceramics, including wheel throwing classes. Courses progress to intermediate- and advanced-level courses, in which students can refine their skills and work with additional glazing materials while developing a personal style. Work is fired in electric, gas, and raku kilns. The program has a liberal open studio policy, enabling students to work independently.

One lovely lady Marilyn told me a wonderful story about her art work—-she is working on a vessel to place  a portion of a dear friend’s ashes.   She told me that her friend had not been sick and was going about her usual routine and  laid down for a nap—and quietly and peacefully passed on in her sleep.  Marilyn smiles wispfully when she finishes and you can see the love there in her eyes and in her hands as she continues to spin and shape her piece of love and remberance of that dear friend.

But that wasn’t all and a twinkle came to her eyes and her smile broadened as she told of her friend’s game with her husband using sticky notes on items they had and how this was an ongoing joke between the two of them and then notifies me that she is making a pottery sticky note as part of the finished vessel andd chuckles at my smile and returns to her efforts with the pot.

I hope she sends me a picture when it’s finished so I can put it on this blog.  We all should have friends like Marilyn.
