Allison began his racing career working on his father’s Cup Series team and working on his own race car with a group of friends. He began racing in 1979 at
Birmingham International Raceway in Alabama
, and won his first race in just his sixth start. In 1983, Allison moved up to the ARCA Racing Series, winning both events at “hometown” track
Talladega Superspeedway
that season and being named Rookie of the Year in 1984.
Fast Facts: Davey Allison
On July 12, 1993, fresh off a third place finish at New Hampshire the day before, Davey Allison boarded his new helicopter with family friend, Red Farmer. The two left Hueytown, Alabama, home to the “Alabama Gang,” for a day at the Talladega Superspeedway to watch friends David and Neil Bonnet test a car for David’s Busch Series debut.
When Allison arrived at the track, he was attempting to land the helicopter in a fenced in area on the track’s infield. Just about a foot from the ground, the helicopter suddenly spun out of control and crashed. Red Farmer suffered minor injuries while Allison suffered serious head injuries from the crash and died the next day.
Remembering Davey Allison
So just there you have several places to work with—and obviously you can add many more—and you can do it with many subjects or Persons—just had Davey on my mind
The Vikings: A Memorable Visit to America
Solar Storm Helps Calculate Date Vikings Settled in North America:
Analysis of tree rings on the arrival of the Vikings in North America. Although historians have long known that Norse settlers reached the New World before Christopher Columbas, the date remained a mystery. However expets have now confirmed that logs discovered at
L’ Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland,
were felled in AD 1021 using tool associated with the Vikings, rather than native inhabitants. The researchers were aided by radiation damage within the tree rings, caused by a solar storm that took place in AD 993.
