Torture and Executions

It may be my opinion but to me the Tower built by a Norman invader:  William the Conqueror to hold London from being too troublesome didn’t really get into too crazy a place until years later after we went thru Kings named after plants and a war with dueling roses as a theme — also a name—-many died—-but the Tower still didn’t claim any place in the evil of mankind—until a King named Richard—and that whole things is now considered more of a fiction made up by a playwright that may well have been as much of a fiction whoever he really was—-and were the boys           killed there?  To date other than ancient rumors and a couple of long rotten skeltons –in a place where they have found several more over the years–and found before you could do DNA testing leaves that up in the air as well.

But then came that 8–Henry guy whose’s evil deeds cost the lives of many wives—his first Katherine of Aragon—just divorced but forever (in her eyes) disgraced and (in everybody’s) betrayed—Anne Boleyn was actually put under a Frenchman’s blade and yes she was at the tower where she died—Jane Seymour his third victim–I mean wife died after delivering a son and heir—but dead all the same… the 5th—(I know there was a 4th Anne of Cleves (she outlived the king and the few other wives that survived him)—but Henry didn’t bed her—the marriage was  annulled and she was made an honorary sister of the king and given multiple castles which the crown provided money to keep up and money for her food and clothes so other than being removed from her home in what is now Gemany I can’t see that she fits the victim column).  There was a  5th who was Katherine Howard—very young and burdened with a fat, gross, stinky—from the sore on his leg which drained and obviously was infected and to my knowledge never healed—and she lost her head too –same charge as Boleyn:   too friendly with some male courtiers—and in both cases they took most of those male coutiers with them to a painful passing.  The last, Katherine Parr, outlived the king but fell victim to another husband, but that’s another story altogether.

The House you see here today is an newer building reconstruction on the site of the 18th c foundation.  This     building is unusual for it’s second story—while most of the buildings in the historical district, now have a second floor, most were built in later centuries.  This houses upper floor was in fact built \ during the English occupation (1763-1783)

You’re never at a loss for things to do on Florida’s Historic Coast!

The house was originally coquina which was plastered over and  as was typical  it had no glass in the windows–just shutters to cover them.

The house has  displays of art objects including paintings and small statues, as well as at least one figurine of the family’s  patron saint.
